4 Eyes: It's a quick search tool for your iPhone. You know how in your desktop web browser you can program search shortcuts like 'wiki' for a wikipedia search or 'yt' for YouTube, 4eyes captures the same idea. You hit pre-programmed typing shortcuts to search the specific service you want to be searching. No more jumping into Google to click on a Wikipedia, IMDB or Amazon link. Altaro Hyper-V Backup beta launched, only 250 places available

hyper-vbackupbeta
This one's for the sysadmins in the audience: Altaro, makers of our favorite "time machine for Windows" back solution, OopsBackup, have just announced a new product entering beta called Hyper-V Backup.

It's a backup solution for virtual machines running on Microsoft's Hyper-V virtualization solution. If that sentence just seemed like a bunch of buzzwords crammed together, Hyper-V backup is not for you. But, if you actually use Hyper-V and are hankering for a good backup solution, Altaro might be worth checking out.

The beta run is limited - Altaro are looking for just 250 testers. All participants will get a free license key to the final, production version. So if you're interested in helping test Hyper-V Backup, get yourself over to Altaro now and join the beta.

Gameloft Launches UNO on the Android Market

UNO

Playing card games, I can say was never at the top of my to-do list -- but one exception to that has always been UNO. It was one of those games I could always manage to sit down and play, simply because it's challenging.

Now, Gameloft has gone ahead and recreated UNO for Android and added some new twists as well.  Some new rules, online gameplay and tournament mode bring an experience to the old UNO classic that will you have you testing your UNO skills to the max.

UNO is now available in the Android Market, you can check out a video of the game in action as well -- find the download link and press release past the break.

*Update* Yeah, Gameloft issued the same PR for this release as they did when it was originally released --- this version adds HD graphics. Sorry bout that! Shoot the messenger? And by that I mean Gamelofts PR company.

PartedMagic: A Swiss Army Knife for Hard Drive Resuscitation

I started out looking for a handy disk partitioning tool to repair a colleague's ailing computer. I ended up finding a toolbox full of very handy repair and system maintenance apps. As a bonus, I got all of this packed into a nifty specialized Linux distro called "PartedMagic" that boots into RAM from a CD or USB drive.

Moving from webOS to Android [From the Forums]

webOS

The shocking news yesterday that HP was halting development of webOS forced us to call an emergency Mobile Nations podcast. The news is sad to us but devastating to the many devoted fans of webOS out there. While HP has left the door open for the OS to be licensed, the future does not look bright. Many fans that purchased a Touchpad only a few weeks ago will be searching for a new platform. Android, iOS, BB7 and WP7 are the major players that will try to persuade the webOS users wandering out there to make the leap. Whenever you transition to a different platform, there will naturally be growing pains when learning a new OS. If you happen to choose Android, we want to make the transition as easy as possible.
