Sennheiser's sophisticated CXC 700 earbuds tout three levels of noise cancellation, TalkThrough functionality

Sennheiser has a thing for trotting out titillating new wares at the annual Consumer Electronics Show, and this year is proving to be no different in that regard. The audio specialist has just introduced one of the most fully-featured headsets we've seen in quite awhile, with the CXC 700 boasting not one, not two, but three levels of noise cancellation. The newfangled NoiseGard /digital technology gives owners a trifecta of noise-cancelling profiles, with each one optimized for something different. In fact, we'll let Senn do the explaining here:

"Mode 1 absorbs low-frequency noise in particular (100 to 400 Hertz), such as engine noise from trains, buses or small passenger planes. Mode 2 focuses on cancelling noise in the medium frequency range (400 to 3,000 Hertz), which is caused above all by air-conditioning systems in large passenger aircraft or office buildings. Mode 3 has a particularly wide frequency range (100 to 3,000 Hertz), and combines the noise-cancelling effect in the medium and low-frequency ranges. As a result, background noise with different noise components, such as that which occurs at airports, railway stations or underground stations, can be effectively suppressed, although with a slightly lower noise-cancelling performance than in the first two modes."

In case that's not enough to convince ya, these offer a frequency response of 20Hz to 21,000Hz, and they'll function just fine (albeit sans noise cancellation) even if your AAA battery keels over. Controls are embedded in the cabling, and users are able to activate the TalkThrough function if they'd prefer to conduct a conversation with someone without actually removing their earphones. Furthermore, changing between the NoiseGard profiles and activation of the TalkThrough function are indicated by both an acoustic and a visual signal. The company will be shipping these with a 4.5-foot long cable, an in-flight adapter, 6.35mm jack plug adapter, a small carrying case and a diaphragm protector, with sales to start later this month for around $320.

LastPass now available for Windows Phone 7

Though the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace is growing steadily, the platform is still lacking plenty of marquee apps. You can now cross one off the list, however -- popular password manager LastPass has arrived! Log in to the app, tap a site in your list, and the WP7 browser opens and LastPass logs you in automatically.

Right now, LastPass for WP7 is read-only, meaning it can pull down all your credentials which are stored in the LastPass cloud but it can't upload new sites from your device. The app also currently only works on sites with that use JavaScript, which LastPass states is an issue Microsoft itself has to resolve.

As with LastPass on other mobile OSes, we suspect you'll need a LastPass Premium subscription ($12/year) to use the Windows Phone 7 app beyond a trial period. We'll update this post as soon as we receive confirmation one way or the other.

Android 2.4 Gingerbread breaks loose on a prototype Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc?

We're still coming down from the euphoria of introduction, but Dutch site Tweakers.net claims that Google's not entirely passing the torch to Honeycomb just yet -- beforehand, there's apparently another Gingerbread build in the cards. Having played with some sort of cobbled-together Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc with a 2.4 build, the site says that we can expect an incremental build that seems to feature miscellaneous stuff Google might not have had time to include in 2.3 -- random things like a new animation when deleting icons off the home screen, to much bigger features like visible video calling hooks. Unfortunately, said hooks didn't seem to be tied to any video calling-enabled Google Talk client, but considering how early this build seems to be, there's reason to believe they'll add it in by launch time. It's an open question when this is coming -- or to what devices -- and when you think about Eclair's progression from 2.0 to 2.1, it could happen sooner than you expect.

Android Market listings will soon be able to display demo videos

It's hard to convey what some applications actually do through the use of static screenshots. Take apps like Dropbox, Fiabee, or Awesome Drop, for example. It's just not that easy to explain in two images how files get from your desktop to the cloud and then down to your phone. A video demo, however, could be a lot more useful -- and soon apps in the Android Market will be able to display them.

Right now, there are about 2,000 apps with newly-added videos in the Market but they aren't being displayed just yet. They're also available via the Market API, so some sites like Appsfire have already begun integrating the video demos into their own listings via the Market API. Check out AppsFire's Dropbox, Twidroyd, and Skyfire pages to see how helpful videos can be in illustrating an app's functionality.

First HSPA+ and LTE tablets coming to AT&T in the second half of 2011, Motorola included

Hot on the heels of its trifecta of HSPA + smartphones (the Infuse 4G, Atrix 4G, and Inspire 4G), AT&T announced that both HSPA+ and LTE tablets are coming to its network in the second half of 2011. The first tablet is made by Motorola and features HSPA+ (or as AT&T calls it, 4G), Honeycomb, a 10.1-inch display. and a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. The second tablet features LTE, but AT&T was reluctant to share more specifics. These will be joined by more HSPA+ devices in the first half of the year (5 to 7 devices total), and LTE devices in the second half of the year, including phones, tablets and modems.

Let's Crate hands-on: simple drag-and-drop file sharing, but lacking important features

File sharing tools are all the rage. Ranging from the sync-oriented SugarSync, to the excellent workhorse of YouSendIt, and the consummate simplicity of Imgur, you have just about every base covered. It's a concentrated market with a lot of competition, but startup Let's Crate thinks it has what it takes to elbow its way into the money.

Espousing the KISS principle, Let's Crate hopes that the simple addition of drag-and-drop functionality and one crappy Flash flourish is enough to pull users away from tried-and-tested services. Unfortunately, that isn't the case: Let's Crate simply doesn't bring enough to the table.

As you're undoubtedly well aware, the chicken's vestibulo-ocular reflex and gaze stabilizing function (Google it!) is highly evolved, making it just the thing for steadying your camera. Of course, you need access to live poultry, a tiny camera, some sort of rubber band, and the patience and skill to befriend a rooster and bring him to your film shoots. You've already seen one loyal Engadget reader's fledgling attempts at the Chicken Powered Steadicam[TM], but you can rest assured that this fowl gadget (groan) is constantly in development. OK ... which one of you perverts returned this Coby Kyros tablet

We love these stories. A 12-year-old girl awakes on Christmas Day to find her prized present beneath the tree -- an Android tablet. And, look, Santa! It's already got porn apps installed on it! So instead of a white Christmas, they got a blue Christmas.

When confronted by the girl's father on Monday, Coby senior product manager Michael Paladino said, "There is nothing preprogramed from Coby. LIke any other internet device with an open platform, a wide range of content is available which may require parental oversight." That's true, parents should keep (erm) abreast of their kids' online habits. I know I do.

But there actually are a few crimes here:

1. Coby should have (ahem) bent over backwards to apologize and exchange the devices. That's just good customer service. It's doubtful the girl downloaded "Boobs! Butts! Babes!" and "Undress Me" on her own.
2. The newscaster at WSIL-TV calls the Coby Kyros "similar to the Apple iPad and Amazon Kindle." Mmmmmm'kay.

Regardless, if you're going to return a crappy tablet after (cough) using it, do the world a favor and follow our how-to for cleaning porn off the device. Little Suzie and her family will thank you. [WSIL-TV]
